“Religious motives” visa

The “Religious motives” visa is issued for the purpose of the short- or long-term stay of the religious figures and clergy members, who happen to be foreign citizens belonging to religious organizations, and intend to participate in religious events, conduct clerical or religious activity or pastoral allegiance.

Requirements and conditions for the issue of the present visa type:

a) confirmation  of the applicant’s status as the religious figure or clergy member at his/her religious organization

b) documented confirmation of the religious character of events or activities, comprising the purpose of stay in Italy

c) in case the expenses for accommodation of a foreign citizen are not being covered by the religious organization, the applicant should be in possession of financial assets reserved for accommodation in the amount no less than the one specified by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, art. 4, 286/1998, and its further supplements and alterations.

d) medical insurance, according to the Council decision dated 22 of December 2003, within the bounds and under the terms, specified by the corresponding regulatory documents.

In case there is an invitation from a religious organization, which actually conducts its activity in Italy, however doesn’t belong to confessions, which have concluded agreements with the Italian government, or to any legal acknowledged religious organizations, a visa is granted only upon the condition of confirmation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs concerning the character of a religion and its correspondence to the Italian legal order.

It is necessary to provide the CERTIFICATE, ISSUED BY AN AUTHORIZED PERSON of a religious rank, whose signature should be verified, if possible, by the Apostolic Nunciature or, if not, by the authorized local religious bodies (Curia Vescovile).

5. PERSONAL FINANCIAL GUARANTEES for the whole period of stay in Italy:
In case the expenses of the applicant are not covered by any religious organization, one should provide personal financial guarantees in the amount not less than set by the Ministry of Internal Affairs order, art. 4.3, 286/1998 and its further amendments and modifications.

BANK CERTIFICATE (valid within one monthconfirming the balance of the applicant’s NON-card bank account, active at least for last 3 months, and the ACCOUNT ACTIVITY CONFIRMATION for the last 3 months;
AN INTERNATIONAL BANK CARD (original and copy), and the original of the BANK CERTIFICATE (valid within one month) confirming the state of the visa applicant’s bank account (in any currency), containing his/her Surname, Name, Patronymic, card number and the account remaining balance. In case of submitting the embossed international bank card the ATM receipt (valid within three days) can be applied instead of the bank certificate;


with fixed dates, both ways, based upon the stay of not longer than 90 days, in case of travelling by plane, train or regular bus.

OR in case of traveling by a personal vehicle the following documents are necessary:

• original and copy of the vehicle registration certificate,
• original and copy of the «greencard» insurance,
• original and copy of the driver’s license,
• if the vehicle is rented, the original and copy of the vehicle rent agreement.


(original and copy), valid throughout the territory of Schengen countries covering the requested period of the first trip and a 15-day corridor from the specified returning date. The minimal amount of insurance coverage is 30,000 Euro.
Health insurance can be purchased directly at the Italian Visa Сenter.


• An international passport and copies of all its filled pages. The passport should be valid at least three months after the visa expiration period and it should be issued not earlier than 10 years ago (Art. Visa Code 12).  There should be at least two blank pages in the passport left (for a visa and border crossing stamps). Passports with an extended validity period are not accepted.
• All other international passports: valid (and copies of all pages), and expired (and copies of all filled pages).
• The internal passport and copy of all its filled pages.


All documents in Ukrainian or any other language (excluding English or Italian), except for the internal passport, must be submitted with the average translation into English or Italian languages. The translation can also be performed by a translation agency or by any other specialized organization.

The presence of all mentioned documents by no means makes the visa issue obligatory or automatic.
The Diplomatic or Consular Mission reserves the right to request additional documentation.
